Bering Tonnage Ships: Prices, TEU, Speed & Classes

Rostock-Warnemunde shipyard Procurement tab listing new-build hulls with class, TEU, speed and price

New-build prices at Rostock-Warnemunde

Every row is read straight off the shipyard screen. Speed is shown in game as km per day; the knots column is our conversion. The yard listed 8 new and 10 used ships when captured; the eighth new hull, Dortmund, was cut off at the bottom of the list.

Prices read from the official screenshot:

Price per container slot

The same yard, sorted by what one TEU of capacity costs you. Shorter bar = cheaper capacity.

  1. Hamburg Panamax $16.1K
  2. Stuttgart Panamax $16.2K
  3. Potsdam Panamax $16.3K
  4. München Handymax $35K
  5. Gelsenkirchen Handymax $35K
  6. Hannover Handymax $35K

The split is clean: all three Panamax hulls sit at $16.1-16.3K per TEU and all three Handymax hulls at $35.0K. Price inside a class follows size almost exactly, so on this list there is no "bargain" hull, only a choice between capacity and speed. Handymax ships are 30-47 km/d faster, about 4-6%: on a 10-day leg that is half a day saved. Buy Handymax for short loops between busy ports where you sail more than you wait, and Panamax for long trunk lines where filling the hold is the whole game.

Engines and upgrades

The Potsdam's spec card lists an HFO engine with MDO and LNG as upgrades, and a total of $61,750,000 on the Commission hull button (the list rounds it to $61M). Starter ships also burn heavy fuel oil. Your company profile tracks traits such as "dirty energy" and "well-maintained fleet", so engine choice probably feeds reputation, which in turn gates some licenses (the US license needs "Excellent" brand reputation). Until the release build shows the numbers, treat LNG as a reputation play rather than a cost saving.

Ship names repeat between fleets

Ship names are generated, and the same name can belong to completely different hulls. From the official screenshots:

So do not judge a ship by its name when buying used or checking a rival at port: open it and read the capacity.

Starter ships

Both demo starts (Caribbean and Oceania) gave the same pair. More ships arrive through the objective chain: a "Ship offer arrived" notice pops up and one streamer found a free ship waiting in the Cayman Islands right after buying that license. See the beginner guide for when they show up.

How to buy a ship

  1. Find a shipyard on the map (anchor icon on the port; one sits in Germany at Rostock, another was spotted near Japan).
  2. Open it and pick Procurement. Switch between the New and Used tabs; filter by manufacturer with the icons at the top right.
  3. Select a hull to see its spec card (class, max TEU, max speed, engine, upgrades) and press Commission hull to order a new build.
  4. Fleet Works is the yard's other tab. Ships also repair in ordinary ports up to a cap set by the port's facilities (25%, 50% or 70%).

Ship questions

How many ships are in Bering Tonnage?

148 ship variants from 29 manufacturers, sold new or used at 16 shipyards around the world, according to the Steam page. One shipyard (Rostock-Warnemunde) showed 8 new-build hulls and 10 used ships at the moment it was captured.

What is the best value ship?

On price per container slot, Panamax. At Rostock every Panamax works out to about $16,000 per TEU of capacity and every Handymax to about $35,000. Handymax hulls are slightly faster (824-833 km per day against 786-794), so they earn their premium only on short, busy loops where speed matters more than size.

How fast are ships in knots?

The game shows speed in kilometres per day. 786 km/d is about 17.7 knots and 833 km/d is about 18.7 knots. Ships also obey the fleet-wide throttle in fleet settings, so their real speed on a route can be lower.

Can I rename my ships?

Streamers asked but did not find a rename option in the demo; routes can be renamed. Ship names come from a pool, and the same name can turn up on hulls of very different sizes.

What do HFO, MDO and LNG mean on a ship?

They are fuel types. Ships come with an HFO (heavy fuel oil) engine; the Potsdam lists MDO (marine diesel oil) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) as upgrades. Company traits include "dirty energy", which suggests your fuel mix is tracked, but the game has not shown what a cleaner engine is worth in money or reputation yet.
